Melda Sherman: Hello, can you tell us a little about yourself? What is your name?
Sitki Gulergun: I was known as the “artist” in my town since I was a little boy. I left Turkey to study Art in Oxford, England, when I was 17 years old for 4 years. I then continued my studies by completing 3 Masters programs in London at St Martins School of Design. Please refer to the articles for more information & details. My name is Sitki Gulergun.

Melda Sherman: Where are you from?
Sitki Gulergun: I am originally from Mersin, a city in southern Turkey. I grew up surrounded by my family’s lemon & orange groves by the Mediterranean Sea.
Melda Sherman: Where do you live? Since when?
Sitki Gulergun: I presently live in Boston, MA & Cape Cod since 2017.
Melda Sherman: Are you married?
Sitki Gulergun: Yes, I have been married to Helaine, also an artist/designer, for 37 years, and we have three grown children.
Melda Sherman: Where did you live before?
Sitki Gulergun: I have lived in NYC since 1980 and also resided in Chappaqua, NY, to raise our family while commuting to NYC for work.
Melda Sherman: And can you tell us about the city you live in now? What does it mean to you?
Sitki Gulergun: We now live in Boston in the historic South End. I love having my Gallery, Sitka Home Art Gallery, on the infamous Newbury St in Boston. Boston is one of the cities I believe that encompasses the highest education & people from all over the world. It is a historic city surrounded by incredible, inspirational & timeless architecture and beautiful parks. Also surrounded by water, which inspires me every day. Boston is a very cosmopolitan city that brings people together from all over the world for education, culture, tourism & business.

Melda Sherman: What is your profession? Can you tell us a little about your profession?
Sitki Gulergun: I am a fine artist & gallery owner. I am a Modern impressionist, and I believe in Color! Life is about happiness & color & I am known as The Colorist. My theory of painting is “interstellar,” meaning I look at things from a different dimension, not just out of the box.

Melda Sherman: What are your plans?
Sitki Gulergun: In March 2025, I am opening a 2nd Art gallery in Sowa, which is the art district in the South End of Boston. In my galleries, which are also my studio, I am creating, painting & talking to customers of all ages & from all over the world about my art, my philosophy, my education & my passion for creating unique pieces constantly.
Melda Sherman: Many people in the world want to change their lives. They even want to move to other countries. What would you like to tell them?
Sitki Gulergun: Bring & share your knowledge to a place you want to go, travel is life-changing & eye-opening, it’s inspirational. I love to travel, even short distances, because I get inspired by every place I go & people I meet.

Melda Sherman: Everyone learns something about life. What have you discovered?
Sitki Gulergun: I discovered we are all connected by FOOD! LOL. My art talks in my gallery turn from colorful art discussions to cooking & recipe exchange, also a very delicious & joyful conversation. I love to connect with our customers from all over the world, each with different unique backgrounds & cultures just like mine. This is how you learn more about a person with Food. I also LOVE to cook, I cook like I paint, very fast, colorful & very good! This is what my wife says…

Melda Sherman: Finally, imagine sending a message to the universe! What would you say?
Sitki Gulergun: I paint for the future. I learned from the masters in my younger years as an artist & and now I am painting today for future generations “Happiness in Color.” Create something new & out of the ordinary. Be different, create from your soul, create your image. When I am painting, I listen to different kinds of music in all languages. The music makes me go to a different zone; I am so focused & able to concentrate on only what I am creating & painting. All other noises are cut off because I am listening to my inner soul to create… I paint what I feel, not to paint what I see but to create my unique vision.
It’s so important to express myself as a creative individual, not to copy myself but to be unique. You must be a creative individual and be creative for yourself. Self-thinking person. Art knowledge is one part of my life, bringing out my creative part is another part of my life, and the quality of my art is another part, and I bring all these together to be a unique & versatile artist. Each brushstroke is my musical notes they have to harmonize on my canvas when I paint. My life & passion is to create art every day, and I never stop learning & teaching myself how to be different.
Thank you very much…
