A new cultural bridge is taking shape between New York, Paris and Hong Kong. The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Centre Pompidou and M+ have formed an alliance to deepen collaboration across their collections and areas of expertise.

The leaders of the three institutions signed a framework agreement at M+ in Hong Kong on October 30, 2026. The alliance encompasses intermuseum loans, joint exhibitions, research and curatorial collaboration.

Three cities, different perspectives

MoMA, the Centre Pompidou and M+ each hold an important place in the cultural life of their cities, while approaching modern and contemporary art from different perspectives.

MOMA, New York

MoMA in New York is known for a collection that has helped shape the international history of modern art. Paris’s Centre Pompidou is recognized for its interdisciplinary approach, spanning visual art and design. In Hong Kong, M+ offers an Asia-centered perspective on the visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

By working together, the institutions may bring artworks from their collections into new conversations. An artistic movement can be understood not only through the city where it emerged, but also through the ways it was received and transformed elsewhere.

A new dialogue between collections

Loans between the museums could allow audiences to encounter works they might otherwise need to travel across continents to see. Joint curatorial research may also reveal connections among artists, movements and ideas beyond national borders.

The alliance is a reminder that the story of art is not written in a single city. Exhibitions and research connecting New York, Paris and Hong Kong could bring works from different regions into new conversations. The collaboration’s impact will become clearer through the artists selected and the space it gives to artistic production across Asia.

A new meeting point for the art world

The agreement does not merge ownership of the collections into a single institution. Its stated framework focuses on expanding access to existing collections and deepening collaboration among the museums. No specific joint exhibition or artwork transfer schedule has yet been announced.

For now, the alliance offers a new model for considering how art and ideas can travel across borders. Attention will turn to the first exhibitions and research projects that bring this cultural bridge to life.
