Hello beautiful people,
I’m Melda Sherman from Boston, author of Migratory Birds. My topics are generally about immigration and I am writing the 10th interview of my “People of Another World” article series in ARTTMODERNMÄ°AMIMI GAZETE. I will introduce you to a wonderful young man from London / UK this time.
We are here with the interview of Muhammed Kasim Boyaci. While looking at those wonderful chic, bohemian boutiques in Portobello in London; You can meet this cute, friendly, and handsome young man. Muhammed is one of the young people who immigrated from Turkey to London in the last five years. He has great hats and great conversation. He has come a long way to realize his dreams. Let’s hear his story from him…
Muhammed Kasim Boyaci interview from London/Portobello
Melda Sherman: Hello, can you tell us a little about yourself? What is your name?
Muhammed Kasim: Hello, my name is Muhammed. I am 27 years old, born in Izmir. I started playing football in Turkey at 6 and played amateur and professional in various clubs. While playing football, I completed my university education in Occupational Health and Safety specialization. We are three siblings, my oldest sister works in a global company, and our youngest brother is a senior student in chemical engineering. My mother is a housewife and my father is a welder.
Melda Sherman: Where do you live? Since when?
Muhammed Kasim: I have been living in London since 2021.
Melda Sherman: Where did you live before?
Muhammed Kasim: I lived in Istanbul between 2018 and 2020 (the years when I played professional football in Istanbul). I was living in Izmir before 2018.
Melda Sherman: Nice! What’s your job?
Muhammed Kasim: Currently, I have a hat shop with a close friend of mine, we are busy with this business in Portobello Market (London).
Melda Sherman: Are you married?
Muhammed Kasim: I am engaged.
Melda Sherman: Congratulations 😊 How did you come up with the idea of living in another country?
Muhammed Kasim: The idea of living in another country occurred to me when I was in the 4th grade of primary school. My friend, whom I call my blood brother, moved to England with his family in the 4th grade. At that time, I always wanted to be there while playing console games and following Premier League matches, but after my friend left, this desire started to outweigh me even more. While we were video chatting on Skype, I would constantly ask him to show me out the window and say that one day I would move there too, start a business together, and continue our lives there. I succeeded, but in the first month of my first year, my friend received a job offer from Germany and moved there 😊
Melda Sherman: Ha! Ha! What luck! Can you tell us a little bit about what it’s like to live in London?
Muhammed Kasim: London is a wonderful city that culturally includes many countries. In my opinion, some incredible activity areas appeal to everyone and all ages. If I were to give an example of these; Museums and Galleries – Historical Buildings and Monuments – Theaters and Performing Arts – Parks and Open Spaces – Shopping and Food Culture – Festivals and Events
Many events welcome us under these headings.
Melda Sherman: That was a great explanation! How did you adapt to living in another country?
Muhammed Kasim: In my opinion, living in London is great, but it is difficult for most people. The main factor is that the weather is always gray. Since I come from a background in football and continue to coach and work in a semi-professional club, it has a positive effect on me psychologically. It is much easier to socialize and chat with people than in Turkey, and I find it nice that people do not status you based on what you do or your job.
Before I started working in a company that controlled payment methods, I worked for 3 years. I can say that I adapted easily while working because I solved the problem of finding a job early and it was easier and easier for me to enter social life.
Melda Sherman: What are your plans?
Muhammed Kasim: Among my plans, we want to earn a passive income here, return to Turkey, start a business there, and spend time with the people we love. Those who live abroad know it is a little difficult to get into the social environment in Turkey.
Melda Sherman: In many parts of the world, many people want to change their lives. He even wants to settle in other countries. What would you like to say to them?
Muhammed Kasim: I think this is the most beautiful experience a person can have in his life. Watching videos on YouTube and saying “I want to live abroad” is not enough. It is not easy to leave your family and friends behind and start from scratch. You need to rent a house, but a bank account is required, but they require a home address to open a bank account. You can understand the complexity of the job 😊 If you are coming to an established system, you start with a 3-0 lead, but coming and making a start without anyone you know makes you feel like a baby. Everyone should have this experience, even if it is 1-2-3-4-5 years, they should go out and experience it.
Melda Sherman: Perfect! Finally, imagine sending a message to the universe! What would you like to say?
Muhammed Kasim: If you keep your heart clean and request something by feeling it from your heart, you will somehow receive positive feedback. I have experienced this and continue to experience it. I hope I was able to answer your questions descriptively. Thank you.
