Hello beautiful people,

I am Melda Sherman from Boston, author of “Migratory Birds”. My subjects are mostly immigrant stories and immigration and I am writing the eighth interview of my “People of Another World” series in ARTTMODERNMIAMI NEWS.

This time, I will introduce you to a wonderful young man from a dreamland. As some of you may have understood from the cover photo, it is a colorful, warm, lively, libertarian little country! Yes! We are going to Cuba…

We are here with the Mr Maikel Collymore interview. Maikel is a funny man with big dreams who immigrated to the United States with his family from Cuba and has already accomplished many of them… Congratulations to him.

Let us listen to his story… Melda Sherman / ARTTMODERNMIAMI NEWS

Melda Sherman: Hello, can you tell us a little about yourself? What is your name?

Maikel Collymore: Hello, my name is Maikel.

Melda Sherman: Where do you come from?

Maikel Collymore: I am from Cuba.

Melda Sherman: Cool! Are you married?

Maikel Collymore: I am married.

Melda Sherman: Where do you live? Since when?

Maikel Collymore: I have lived in Jacksonville since 2021

Melda Sherman: Where have you lived before?

Maikel Collymore: I have lived in Cuba, Mexico, and Jamaica.

Melda Sherman: Awesome! What is your occupation?

Maikel Collymore: I am a computer engineer

Melda Sherman: Well… What is your country like? Can you tell us a little bit?

Maikel Collymore: I like my country, friendly people, our food is magic and makes us dance all the time.

Melda Sherman: Awesome, what exciting! Do you have movie and book recommendations about your country?

Maikel Collymore: I recommend movies like Strawberry and Chocolate 1993, Conducta 2014, and Memories of Underdevelopment. I recommend books like Dreaming in Cuba, The Kingdom of this World, Goodbye, and Happy Homeland.

Melda Sherman: I took note J How are the Cuban people? What food do Cubans eat? What drinks do they drink? How is the climate in Cuba?

Maikel Collymore: Cubans are very happy and fun, we like to eat rice with beans called congris, yuca, and roast pork. Our climate is very warm so we drink a lot of soft drinks and beer, to warm the blood we drink mixed drinks based on Havana club rum.

Melda Sherman: Sounds good! J How did you adapt to America?

Maikel Collymore: We adapt very well wherever we go due to the vital shortcomings we have in our country.

Melda Sherman: Good answers! What are your plans?

Maikel Collymore: Be a successful man and live a full life!

Melda Sherman: Awesome! J Many people in many parts of the world want to change their lives. They even want to settle in other countries. What would you like to say to them?

Maikel Collymore: Adjust to the place where you settle and contribute to society.

Melda Sherman: Well… Do you go to Cuba often? What are you missing?

Maikel Collymore: I do not go to Cuba often and I miss my family, good friends, and culture.

Melda Sherman: Well, what is popular as a profession in Cuba?

Maikel Collymore: To be a teacher and a doctor are the most popular professions in Cuba.

Melda Sherman: Do you have a funny memory after moving to America?

Maikel Collymore: I have many fun moments here in America because of my happy way of being.

Melda Sherman: Finally, imagine sending a message to the universe! What would you say?

Maikel Collymore: Live life to the end.
