Movie and Culture III

-

|

Hello Dear readers, first of all I wish you all a happy new year. In this article, I will suggest you movies with new year content, but not unusual at all, that you can watch during the New Year and Christmas holidays.

Sunset Boulevard(1950)
Sunset Boulevard, one of the cult films directed by Billy Wilder, is about silent film actress Norma Desmond, who lost her fame with the collapse of silent films in Hollywood cinema. Norma invites the screenwriter she has platonically fallen in love with to her New Year’s Eve party. But the interesting thing is that the party has only one guest. As the movie progresses, you’ll discover Desmond’s mysterious facets.

Strange days (1995)
It is a science fiction and thriller film directed by Kathryn Bigelow. It tells the transition from 1999 to the millennium in a dystopian world. Nero, a former police aide, deals with black market discs containing digital recordings of different individuals’ emotional experiences. It is the prediction of today’s virtual reality.

Dogtooth (2009)
This absurd and surreal film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos is a dramatic narrative in which three young children are imprisoned and kept unaware of the world by their parents. The robotic dance scene of the Christmas night clearly conveys the depression of the youth.

In addition to these movies, I would like to share with you the best films of this year for me; The Menu, The Fabelmans, The Batman, Don’t worry Darling, Poker Face,
Drive My Car, Avatar.

Enjoy watching. Happy New Year.
