When I first went to Barcelona in 2000 it was New Year’s Eve. The last time I went was in July 2023. Here is our summer in Barcelona…
Despite all its gothic structure, Barcelona is an incredibly young city. I don’t know whether it is because it is touristy or because it is a student city. Even though the beach during the day, the nightlife that lasts until the morning, and the excessive use of alcohol and drugs cause the streets to smell bad, Barcelona is a city that must be visited and seen… Its legendary dishes, restaurants, and wines must be tasted… My favorite is of course paella 😊
All kinds of seafood can be easily eaten. You can see wonderful boutiques in Barcelona. Prices are quite reasonable; it is not an expensive city! Handcraftsmanship and especially leather is very advanced, textiles are exquisite. You will likely find very unique designs rather than branded products. If you ask me to summarize; I would say the hot weather, the sharp smell of ammonia that burns your nose, and the wonderful design stores and wonderful restaurants that suddenly distract all your attention while walking through the narrow medieval streets, with a very large crowd of tourists.
Wherever you go in Spain, you should watch Flamenco. Flamenco, which is almost their national dance, is almost the dance of love and passion, but I also feel hatred and anger in every sound of a heel hitting the ground. 😊 Where there is passion, there is always anger. If you are going to watch Flamenco, please do not go to very cheap shows, because as the prices decrease, the dancers get older. Even though the dancing is good, I prefer to see couples who are young and whose passion I can feel. I watched all kinds of them, my choice and suggestion is to choose a good Show!
I always visit museums wherever I go. My suggestion here is; the Moca and Picasso museum, you won’t have much trouble with the two side by side anyway.
You didn’t mention Sagrada Familia! I can almost hear you say it. Go and see Sagrada Familia closely, which is a monument to the patience of the Spaniards, their love of siesta, or how they forget what they were doing after starting a job because it took more than 100 years to build. Architect Gaudi’s works are in many parts of the city, they are a must-see!
The sea is magnificent, you will love it. The sea, which has a turquoise color, is also amazing in terms of the temperature of its water. The nightlife is very active in every way, I would say the average age is 25-30. One of the things that caught my attention the most was the women who wanted to give massages in every corner. While sunbathing by the sea, I wouldn’t mind trying the masseuses, who seem to be very skillful and want to give you a massage every five minutes. I recommend it. It is perfect for your feet and bones that hurt from walking. Of course, there are margarita sellers… I can’t imagine drinking margaritas in that heat. It must be in high demand because margaritas are sold in thermoses just like water is sold everywhere. Well, if a person drinks regardless of the sun, day or night, I guess it would be normal to confuse the middle of the street with the toilet, and I love a world where everything is in balance. 😊
I recommend Barcelona for a few days’ getaways, go get some medieval air, then go back to your comfort zone where you feel safe and have a deep breath… Oh!
