“Power corrupts, but absolute power corrupts absolutely” —-Lord of the Rings

This article will critique one of my favorite movies, “The Lord of the Rings” and its philosophy.

The Lord of the Rings is a fantasy middle-earth movie that received Oscar awards in 11 categories. It was first published as a book by Oxford University professor J. R. R. Tolkien and was later brought to the big screen in 2001. The film, directed by Peter Jackson, has received awards in many categories and is among the top 10 best movies on IMDB.

The Lord of the Rings is interesting in terms of its subject! It consists of 3 parts. first part

The Fellowship of the Ring; is about the struggle to get rid of the ring that will change the fate of the world. This is a ring that changes, corrupts, and dehumanizes whoever wears it as a ring of power. See 👉🏻 Smiago

How did the ring of power come about?

The last of the rings were produced years ago and brought nothing but blood to the lands of Middle Earth, appearing hundreds of years after their production. Frodo (the main hero of The Hobbit), who is unaware of the power of the ring entrusted to him by his uncle, is horrified by what the wizard Gandalf tells him. The only way to get rid of this ring and future wars is to destroy this ring to prevent Sauron (the evil creature) who is trying to gather his power. A team of self-sacrificing warriors is formed to take the Ring to Mordor, the only place where it can be destroyed. The journey, which will be very long and difficult, begins. The fate of Middle-earth is in the hands of these people.

“Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely” is a fundamental philosophical principle at the heart of the “Lord of the Rings” series. J.R.R. The One Ring created by Tolkien is a concrete symbol of this principle. The One Ring grants its owner great powers but also corrupts and consumes him.

The Nature of the One Ring

Sauron forged the one ring. It is a reflection of his evil and power. Although the ring grants its owner great powers, it controls him and makes him less human. It turns him into a creature that does not want to lose the power he has. The ring’s effect on the mind and soul of its bearer raises profound philosophical questions about the nature of power and people’s vulnerabilities to it. The ring’s whispers exploit the bearer’s deepest desires and fears, attempting to draw them down a darker path. (Tree of Evolution)

A short excerpt from the book:

The only ring on his finger fell into the hands of Isildur, but people who were hungry for power did not destroy the ring. He later betrayed the lord of the ring and caused Isildur’s death. He got lost in a river. Thus, the values that should not be forgotten were forgotten.

Centuries passed and the ring fell into the possession of Smeagol, an ancient Hobbitolan. Sméagol hid the ring deep in the misty mountains for 500 years, but the Hobbit named Bilbo Baggins saw Gollum drop the ring; and then picked it up. Having regained his power over the years at Barad-Dûr in Mordor, Sauron struck again, reuniting all the peoples who had served evil. The only thing Sauron needed to take over Middle Earth was the ring. Aware of all this, Gandalf of the Istari gathered a council in the country of the Elf representative Elrond and decided that the ring should be destroyed. The task of destroying the ring was given to the Hobbit Frodo Baggins. Thus, the adventure began. (Wikipedia)

Even though the book tells about the ancient world, it seems it is not unfamiliar today! What do you think?

The One Ring must be destroyed, and goodness is ready to fight for it. In the background, human, elf, and dwarf armies have come together against the dark forces, despite all their old enmities. They all look at the hand of a tiny Hobbit and his abilities. The fate of Middle Earth is about to be decided. However, owning the One Ring can sometimes be more attractive to the bearer. Here, the confident, determined, and strong Frodo, who carries the ring to destroy it, begins to change under the effect of the ring. The cute Hobbit, who begins to feel the power of the trust he carries in his bones, begins to make even his companion Sam think. It creates doubt in everyone who watches it!

In the second part, you must watch the war of trees and forests. A giant army is forming and the army of evil is destroying Gondor.

Watch the movie! Those who have watched the film before should watch it again, that’s what I will do… 😊

Goodbye, until the next article…
